What Are AI Agents?
There are many types of AI agents and growth continues everyday. AI agents are the future in commerce, stock trading, cryptocurrencies and many other areas of growth. Think of an AI agent as a system of different types of software that use AI technology to complette different tasks and try to pursue goals for users in different industries. These different types of AI agents are able to exist due to their multimodal abilities and different artificial intelligence foundation models. The growth in different types of Ai agents is at the forefront of technology here in 2025 and massive growth is expected in the coming years!
These types of AI agents offer a variety of features that assist in their decision making capabilities. When making decisions, AI agents use acting and reasoning that continue to get better and evolve over time as they become smarter and more complex. There are many key features of AI Agents specific to their type that we are highlighting below. There are a variety of AI agents that are the type to be in a category depending on their role within their environment. Depending on their type of interaction like a surface AI agent that is interactive or a background agent that is an autonomous background process, their goal is to perform tasks without user input either in direct conversation or running in the background of their environment or AI ecosystem. Very little human interaction is needed as they increase knowledge through events and complete tasks.
When looking at different types of AI Agents, it's also important to look at the number of agents working throughout the process. A single agent works independently with a desire to reach a goal. External tools are used to help them accomplish certain tasks and improve their capabilities in different environments. Multi agents are a type of AI agent that collaborates and works with other agents to assist in reaching complex or individual goals. Think of different agents having expertise in certain tasks that can assist other agents with their goals. These models without their fundations are used to fit their individual needs with the help of others to assist in complex tasks.
As AI Agents continue to evolve, there are many challenges that comes with their use. Depending on the type of AI agent, many can have struggles determining human emotions and thoughts. An AI agent doesn't have empathy or the ability to decipher conflict resolution. An ecosystem associated with social situations may inhibit the Agent's response. AI agents also don't have a moral compass or the ability to judge complex issues and situations ethically. This training is ongoing but still in it's infancy. Lastly, the expenses associated with developing Ai agents may not be available for smaller projects and this is a big part of the growth within the AI industry as a whole.
